Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Rapidly expanding Hydrovac Company looking for a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor. Would work closely under general direction of Fleet Director. Supervises vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair for a multi-state fleet of Semi trucks, Earthmoving Equipment and Passenger Vehicles; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility. Maintains detailed records. 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Plans, prioritizes, schedules, assigns, supervises, reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for fleet maintenance and division organization and operations. Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, priorities and budget.
  • Directs Fleet operations, services and activities in accordance with applicable regulations and company standards, vehicle inspections, employee training, etc.
  • Directs, coordinates and reviews the work of Fleet services and activities. Identifies resource needs. Assigns work activities and projects. Monitors and supervises workflow utilizing computerized asset/work management systems. Works to identify and resolve problems. Reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures. Approves employee time reports and performance evaluations.
  • Implements and maintains the Fleet Management system. Oversees and participates in the maintenance of records and related documentation of a comprehensive records management system. Prepares reports that detail fleet maintenance, costs, performance and efficiencies. Integrates fleet maintenance systems.
  • Participates in the selection of, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; works with employees on performance issues in coordination with Human Resources; implements discipline in consultation with Human Resources; responds to staff questions and concerns.
  • Directs and approves the requisition and/or purchase of garage supplies, repair parts, fuels and lubricants.
  • Works with others to research and determine vehicle and equipment needs. Recommends resulting purchase of vehicles and equipment. Prepares vehicle and equipment specifications for purchase/bidding.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings. Remains informed of trends and innovations in the field of Fleet Management.
  • Responds to and resolves staff, resident and other agency inquiries, concerns and complaints in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Principles of mechanics, trouble-shooting and repair for gasoline and diesel engines, fuel systems, ignition systems, electrical systems, cooling systems, braking systems and suspension systems; (Semi Truck experience preferred) Current methods, terminology, equipment, tools and materials used in the overhaul, repair, maintenance and adjustment of vehicles and equipment that may be within the Companies fleet; applicable federal, state and local codes and regulations relative to the assigned division area; principles of organization, administration, budget and personnel management; principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluation; principles and practices of record-keeping and report preparation and various office equipment including copier, calculator and computer utilizing various related software programs.

Ability to:

Use good judgment in the scope of assigned authority; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective relations with City employees, the public and other agencies; plan, coordinate, schedule and estimate repair and maintenance work; supervise, direct, and coordinate the work of Fleet staff; operate office, shop and field equipment; Theory of skilled automotive and heavy/light equipment repair; maintain accurate and concise records; train and evaluate staff; interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations; Oversee complex, difficult and emergency repairs to vehicles and equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education/Training

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized coursework related to work in automotive technology, business administration, public administration or a related field.

Experience

Five years of responsible experience in vehicle, equipment and diesel repair and maintenance, including two years of lead supervisory experience. Experience with computer programs used for repair diagnostics, preventive maintenance and fleet management is required.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE

Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to heat, humidity, cold, dust, noise, grease, fumes, gases, odors, and extreme noise associated with working with and repairing vehicles and heavy/light equipment. Work requires proximity to various moving pieces of heavy/light equipment and vehicles. Infrequent exposure to mechanical hazards found in automobile shop; work includes frequent use of a telephone and the use of a computer throughout the day and at times for prolonged periods. Work environment is dynamic, both team and autonomy oriented, having variable tasks, pace, and pressure.
